(< us at the basilica)
Saturday morning I had been invited to go to Lyon! The five of us ( L-R: Me, Mariasole - Italy, Charlotte - Belgium, Barbora - Czech Republic, Barbara - Belgium) that were going met at the train station at 9. I bought a pass reserved for people ages 12-25 that gives a discount of 25%-60% on every train ticket bought. The pass is €49 but it is good for a year and we saved %50 on our tickets to Lyon making them only €9.8 each way!
Once we located the metro we bought day passes and headed into the city! After a quick pain chocolat and a peek into the Cathédrale Saint-Jean we took a walk through a street market along one of the two rivers that runs through the city. Next, we hit up the Opera de Lyon which is open to fee tours on Saturdays. After a lunch of bread and baguette we started climbing the city's streets so we could see evvveeerryyytthhhiinnnggg. We took a bus back into the center of the city and visited the Musée des beaux-arts . Then we headed up the other side of the city to see the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, a large 19th century basilica on the top of Fourvière Hill. Next was the Roman-era Theatre on the Fourvière hill. After that it was time to eat again. This time we decided to spluge on a plat chaud we found a cute restaurant that served food Lyonnais. I got a dish that consisted of salmon covered in some kind of crawfish sauce, cheesy potatoes, a bite of salad, bread, and wine. We were too full to find our way home immediately so we took a stroll through the nightlife of Lyon.
Then it was back on the train and home to Grenoble!
Hi Danielle!
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here with your bro! :) Hey...if you ever go back to Lyon, I have a good friend there you should meet. She was Zane's kindergarten teacher. You would like her, I'm sure. We all send you lots of love & kisses. :) xo Anne
